I. General Questions
What does NAKID stand for?
NAKID stands for "No, Adult Kickball Isn't Dumb".
How do I play kickball?
It's similar to baseball and softball, in that there is a home plate, 3 bases (1st, 2nd, and 3rd), there is a pitcher, catcher, basemen, and outfielders. The difference is that we play with a big rubber blue ball and you kick it! Check out our rules to get the scoop.
Why should I join NAKID?
Because it is the best choice for Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday kickball in the DC area. We have a great group of people who don't take the game too seriously. Sometimes we have FREE jello shots at the bar after your game! Plus we are the best run club and we offer a discount to returning players.
How much does it cost to join?
Summer registration is now open, but closes July 31st (or until teams are full of players). The price below is per player, per team and varies per chapter.
- $55 for early Sundays (2pm)
- $55 for late Sundays (3pm)
- $45 for Tuesdays (6:30pm)
- $55 for Wednesdays (6:30pm)
- $55 for Thursdays (6:30pm)
If you have a company team you want to join, or want to bring 15+ players, please email nakid2009@gmail.com to talk about bulk player prices. If you manage a division or chapter with a competing league and are unhappy, definitely email nakid2009@gmail.com about moving to NAKID.
What if I don't know anyone else in the league? Can I still play?
Of course! Even if you don't know what team to join, you can join "Any Team That Needs Me". We'll place you on a friendly team and you'll make some new friends on day one!
How long is the season?
The season will start with our kickoff parties for Sunday/Tuesday teams on Friday, July 23rd and Wednesday/Thursday teams on Saturday, July 24th. We'll begin games immediately after that (the week of Sunday, July 25th). We're going to play for about 10 weeks and the end-of-season party is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd.
How do rainouts/game cancellations work?
If we have to call games because of rain, come on out to the sponsor bar anyway, because we will be buying some FREE beer (and possibly jello shots). Occasionally, we may even have a raffle for a gift certificate or movie tickets. We don't make up rain days, which is why we give you free beer when they happen.
I have a bunch of friends that want to play - how can we get on the same team?
When you go through the registration process, you can see how many openings there are on each team. If you have enough friends, you should consider emailing us and starting your own team. We'll help you fill it up!
What if I don't like my team?
That's no problem. Just send us an email at nakid2009@gmail.com and we'll slide you over to a more fun team.
Are the bars and fields metro accessible? What metro stops?
Absolutely. All fields we play on will be within reasonable distance of a metro stop and the bar. You won't have to walk 20 blocks to get to your kickball game or bar. We'll be playing at 3rd St NW on the Mall, which is a few blocks from Judiciary Square (red line) and Capital South (orange/blue lines).
Can I start my own team?
Absolutely! Just send us an email at nakid2009@gmail.com and include your team name, preferred shirt color (give us a few options, please), and day/time of choice and we'll do our best to accommodate.
I may have to miss several games - can I still join?
Most people miss a game or three. That's not a problem at all.
What are the rules?
Check out the kickball rules in PDF format by clicking here.
How do I join?
Just click the Register Now link at the top right of every page, fill out your info, choose a team, and pay and you are in!
What is the registration fee for?
Equipment, t-shirts, parties, prizes, trips, recruiting, and the tons of other NAKID social events that we will be hosting throughout the year. We have more social events than any other league.
What's a "chapter"?
A chapter is a specific day, time, and location that teams will play. For instance, if you join on "Early Sunday", you'll play once a week (except holidays) on Sunday at 3:00pm on the Mall. Each chapter has up to 15 teams, so there's plenty of opportunities to make new friends.
What are some of the social events NAKID does?
We have: 3 free parties, a Boomerang Bus trip, a Wine festival event, free movie screenings, DC United tailgates @ RFK Stadium, beer-in-hand kickball, and the occasional happy hour. We also have a variety of creative social events periodically, such as the World Series of Pop Culture, Beer Bingo, Beer Spelling Bee, and a Tubing trip.
Can I drink alcohol during kickball games?
Sadly, no. It's prohibited by the Capitol Police and if you're caught, you may be fined and/or arrested.
II. NAKID Social Events
What exactly is the Boomerang Bus?
The Boomerang Bus is awesome. Run by Ride the Boomerang, it's a party bus, which involves us getting 40 people on a bus and drinking beer while it brings us to Baltimore, Annapolis, a Wine Festival, or just around DC. Once we reach our destination, it unloads us so we can bar hop for a few hours and play drinking games. When we're done, we load back onto the bus and it takes us to our starting point (usually our sponsor bar). Sometimes we rent 2 or 3 busses, which can get wild with 120 people bar hopping together!
What social events does NAKID typically have in a season?
We have: 3 free parties, a Boomerang Bus trip, a Wine festival event, free movie screenings, DC United tailgates @ RFK Stadium, beer-in-hand kickball, and the occasional happy hour. We also have a variety of creative social events periodically, such as the World Series of Pop Culture, Beer Bingo, Beer Spelling Bee, and a Tubing trip.
III. Summer Outdoor Kickball Season
How does Summer Outdoor Kickball work?
It's similar to baseball and softball, in that there is a home plate, 3 bases (1st, 2nd, and 3rd), there is a pitcher, catcher, basemen, and outfielders. The difference is that we play with a big rubber blue ball and you kick it! Check out our rules to get the scoop.
When does the season start and end?
The season will start with our kickoff party on April 10th and we'll begin games immediately after that (the week of Sunday, April 11th). We're going to play for about 10 weeks and the end-of-season party is tentatively scheduled for June 27th.
Where do we play kickball?
We normally play 3rd NW and Madison Dr, but may have to move to 7th St NW depending on field space. As for when, that's up to you! We offer chapters on the following days/times:
- $55 for early Sundays (2pm)
- $55 for late Sundays (3pm)
- $45 for Tuesdays (6:30pm)
- $55 for Wednesdays (6:30pm)
- $55 for Thursdays (6:30pm)
Who is our sponsor bar?
Our sponsor bars are My Brother's Place and Hamilton's, both located near Constitution and 2nd St NW - just 3 blocks from our playing fields! It's 3 blocks from both Judiciary Square and Union Station metro stops and 5 blocks from the orange line metro stop of Federal Center SW. We encourage all of out teams to head to the bar of their choice.
What are the bar specials?
Listed below are our bar specials for this season. You can get these special prices only if you are wearing your NAKID shirt.
- $9 pitchers of Coors Lite
- $1 Jello shots
- $4.75 Cuervo and Captain Morgan yard drinks
What skills do I need to play kickball?
None! All levels of skill are welcome. Playing kickball with NAKID is a fun way to compete with people in a sport that is truly a level playing field and then meet a bunch of new people (both on the field and at the bar, afterwards).
How many players are on a team?
Up to 35 players are on a team.
Who refs the games?
Each week, we assign teams to ref games. It's extremely important that all players are familiar with the rules, especially the head refs. If you're interested in being a part of our head ref program, please contact us.
Can I drink alcohol during kickball games?
Sadly, no. It's prohibited by the Capitol Police and if you're caught, you may be fined and/or arrested.
IV. Flip Cup
What are the rules of flip cup?
In team flip cup, it's 6v6 on a table. If one team has less than 6, players may double up on cups. It's best of 7 games (so first team to 4 wins) and the winner keeps the table for the next challenger (kicking the losers off the table).
What are other variations of flip cup? (smack-ass, survivor)
We've got some great variations on classic flip cup, including Smack-Ass (winners smack the asses of the losers, usually guys vs girls), Team Survivor (losing team votes off the worst player, one of them takes the extra cup, and play resumes), and King of the Table (everyone drinks and flips - the last one left is kicked off).
What is One Flip?
You may occasionally see someone with a One Flip bandanna at the bar. That means they are "the best" flip cup player of the night. You may challenge them for the title (and bandanna). To challenge, you must bring beer and 3 cups for each of you. It's best of 3 (so first to 2 wins). Be careful if you challenge, though: there's a Pro One Flip and an Amateur One Flip.
